Primal raw dog food is built around how dogs actually eat in the wild: muscle, organ, bone, tripe and connective tissue, coarse-minced and ready to feed. Every tub in this range is dog-focused, Australian-sourced and dosed by your dog's body weight, not generic species labels. Whether you're feeding a working Kelpie that burns through 600g a day, a 5kg Cavoodle on a sensitive protein, or a senior Staffy with stiff joints, there's a tub built for the job. No preservatives, no fillers, no fine-mince slurry. Pick a base by your dog's size and protein needs, then add a raw meaty bone twice a week for a complete diet.

Why Coarse-Minced Primal Beats Fine-Mince Dog Food

Most raw food for dogs comes as a smooth paste in a tube. That's how cheap pet food has always been made, but it does nothing for a dog's jaw, dental health or digestion. Dogs are built to chew, and chewing is what triggers proper salivary enzyme production and slows feeding to a healthy pace.

Our tubs are coarse-minced so you can see exactly what's in them: real chunks of muscle, organ, bone and natural fat. No hiding behind blended texture. The trade-off is that the food is dense and rich, so we recommend most adult dogs run a one-day fast each week to give the digestive system a proper reset. The full case sits on our benefits of weekly fasting for dogs guide.

Best Primal Raw Dog Food by Protein and Use Case

Each tub is built around a single protein or a deliberate wild blend, with the organ, bone and tripe ratios already balanced. Your job is to match the right one to the dog in front of you.

Working and high-energy dogs

For Kelpies, Border Collies, Heelers and any dog burning serious calories, the Primal Lamb Mix covers the everyday red-meat slot with strong protein and fat density. The Primal Wild Mix goes a step further with ancestral-style protein variety, replicating what a working dog's body is built to thrive on.

Sensitive or allergic dogs

For dogs that have built up reactions to chicken, beef or lamb, novel proteins are the cleanest reset. The Primal Wild Venison, Primal Wild Emu and Primal Water Buffalo tubs are the three to try first. Each one is lean, hypoallergenic and well outside the proteins most allergic dogs have been exposed to. For the bigger picture on diet and skin issues, our raw food for allergies page is the right starting point.

Joint, skin and coat support

For senior dogs, large breeds with joint issues, or dogs with chronic dull coat and itchy skin, the Primal Omega Protein turkey mix is purpose-built. Turkey, fish and goat organs bring concentrated omega-3s that calm inflammation and rebuild coat shine within a few weeks of consistent feeding.

Gut health and sensitive stomachs

The Primal Raw Green Tripe is cold-washed rather than chemically cleaned, so the natural digestive enzymes and probiotic bacteria stay intact. It's the first tub to reach for if your dog has loose stools, recurring gas, or is recovering from antibiotics. There's a full breakdown on our green tripe deep dive.

One-tub balanced option for fuss-free owners

If you'd rather pick one tub and be done, the Primal Balance+ raw food mix is the safest single-choice option. Lean proteins, omega-3s, superfoods and antioxidants in one balanced product. Add a raw meaty bone twice a week and that's a complete diet.

How Much Primal Raw Should You Feed Your Dog

Daily portions scale with body weight, activity and life stage. Use these starting points and adjust by your dog's body condition over a few weeks.

  • 5kg dog (Cavoodle, Mini Dachshund): roughly 100 to 150g per day
  • 10kg dog (Cocker, small Staffy): roughly 200 to 300g per day
  • 20kg dog (Kelpie, Border Collie): roughly 400 to 600g per day
  • 30kg dog (Labrador, large Staffy): roughly 600 to 900g per day
  • 40kg+ dog (Rottweiler, German Shepherd): 800g to 1.2kg per day

Active and working dogs sit at the higher end. Couch-loving seniors at the lower. Puppies eat more relative to their weight because they're growing. For exact numbers, run your dog through our raw feeding calculator. The honest dial is what you see: ribs easy to feel but not visible, with a defined waist from above.

How to Use Primal Raw as a Base Diet

Pair every tub with a raw meaty bone

These tubs are the muscle, organ and tripe portion of the diet. They need a calcium source on the side. Add a raw meaty bone like lamb necks, chicken necks, duck necks or turkey necks two or three times a week. That's a complete raw diet.

Transition off kibble over 7 to 10 days

Going cold turkey usually means loose stools and a confused dog. Start with 25% primal raw and 75% old food, build up over a week or so. Most dogs handle the change well, but slower introductions mean firmer outputs. Our common raw feeding mistakes guide flags the usual slip-ups.

Rotate proteins across the week

Single-protein feeding builds sensitivities. Rotating two or three tubs across the week broadens the nutrient base, prevents fussiness, and gives your dog the variety they'd naturally have hunting different prey. Because everything here is natural produce, you can swap between tubs without re-transitioning.

Storage and thawing

Keep tubs frozen until needed. Thaw in the fridge over 12 to 24 hours, never at room temperature. Once thawed, use within two to three days. Refreezing partially thawed product is fine if it hasn't fully warmed up.

Layer in extras as your dog needs them

A complete weekly bowl looks like primal raw as the base, raw meaty bones two or three times a week, occasional raw organs for nutrient density, and a daily natural supplement if your dog has specific joint, skin or immunity needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Raw food premixes are pre-portioned tubs of muscle meat, organ and tripe, balanced and ready to feed alongside a raw meaty bone. They take the work out of sourcing and balancing a raw diet yourself, while keeping the nutritional benefits of feeding real, unprocessed food. Our range is coarse-minced rather than fine-minced, so dogs chew properly and digest better.
Around 2 to 3% of your dog's body weight daily, split across one or two meals. So a 20kg adult dog needs 400 to 600g. Active dogs eat more, puppies eat more again relative to size. Adjust by your dog's body condition: ribs easy to feel but not see is the target.
Yes. The premixes are the muscle, organ and tripe portion of a raw diet. Add a raw meaty bone two or three times a week for the calcium and dental side. That's a complete raw diet. Some owners also add natural supplements for joints, skin or immunity, and rotate organs for extra variety.
Yes. Cats are obligate carnivores and do well on most of the range, especially the leaner options like venison, emu and turkey. Serve smaller portions, ideally at room temperature rather than fridge-cold, and introduce gradually if your cat is new to raw.
These mixes are nutrient-dense with no fillers, so adult dogs are getting concentrated nutrition every meal. A weekly fast day gives the digestive system a proper rest, mirrors how dogs eat in nature, and pays back in coat condition, energy and gut health. Puppies, very small dogs, pregnant or lactating mothers should not be fasted.
